We are pleased to confirm our sponsorship of the 2026 Lochgilphead Golf Club Men’s Open.

As part of the development of the High Brenfield Wind Farm, Low Carbon is partnering with Lochgilphead Golf Club to plant approximately 14 hectares of native trees upon an area of land to the north of the existing 9-hole course. The tree planting will support Low Carbon’s compensatory planting obligations, and the golf club hopes that the native woodland will become a valued community nature asset.

The President of Lochgilphead Golf Club, Iain McInnes, commented:

“We welcome Low Carbon’s proposals to undertake native tree planting within the Lochgilphead Golf Club landholding. The area of land being proposed is not currently utilised and doesn’t form part of our future expansion aspirations. We hope that the native woodland attracts people to the area and serves as a recreational community nature space. We are grateful of Low Carbon’s sponsorship which will help cover the Open’s operating costs as well as prizes.”

As part of their partnership with Lochgilphead Golf Club, Low Carbon has confirmed their sponsorship of the Men’s Open, which will take place in July 2026.

Low Carbon Project Manager, Angus Thomson, said:

“We are delighted to continue our partnership with Lochgilphead Golf Club through the sponsorship of the 2026 Lochgilphead Gents Open. We recognise the positive impact that community-owned sports organisations have on the health and wellbeing of rural communities, and we look forward to a continuing our partnership with the golf club.”

If consent is granted for High Brenfield Wind Farm, a community benefit fund of approximately £12million (£300,000 per annum (2025 prices)) will be available during the 40-year operational life of the wind farm. Community ownership of up to 10% has also been offered by Low Carbon, with a Memorandum of Understanding currently being considered by a group of community organisations.

The project represents a total expected capital investment of approximately £79 million, of which approximately £9.5 million will potentially benefit local companies.

The construction of High Brenfield Wind Farm is expected to create up to 69 construction jobs with a Gross Value Add (GVA) of £4.1 million in Argyll and Bute.

The project’s total annual operating and maintenance expenditure is expected to be £3.6 million per annum, of which £1.5 million is expected to benefit local companies.
